The Big D then the Mighty M
Our first leg of the trip stopped us in Dallas/Ft Worthless airport for a few hours.
Actually the airport was quite nice, with an efficient transit system between terminals. Of course, we went to the wrong gate at first, that would be the OTHER flight to Miami an hour before ours. Nonetheless, we found our mistake within 30 min. of landing and peacefully found our way to the correct gate. At that point, Alyssa explored the entire wing, over and over and over again. She burned herself out big time, and crashed just as we were boarding the plane for Miami.
She did well on her first flight. She slept for a good half of the 3 hours to Dallas and then playfully made it through the rest of the journey.
The flight from Dallas to Miami was a bit different. We were right behind a mother with her month old infant and grandma. The baby screamed bloody murder for a good 45 minutes and finally woke Alyssa up - much to our dismay. So once the infant fell asleep, Alyssa was wide awake and kicking the seat of the mom in front of us, who reacted by slamming her seat back with gusto. That only made Alyssa kick worse, and we probably would have stopped her if it were not for the lady's blatant attitude. So she moved seats in front of me and did the same forcefull slamming back on her seat. Didn't really faze me, since I was reading and just used the top of her head as my book rest. (Well nearly).
The funny part was that anytime I had to get up, the lady woke up because I had to brush against her seat in order to schwagel my way out.
(Is schwagel a word?)
Anyhow, Alyssa was a fuss bucket for the last 45 minutes or so, but overall she did good. We arrived at our hotel, the Doubletree Biscayne and she ran around for another two hours.
I tried to take Jule to a nice dinner at a great Italian place located in our hotel's shopping area - but Alyssa wasn't having any more of sitting in one spot. So, Jule got her salad and Alyssa's mashed potatoes and went up to the room while I finished one of the best plates of risotto e fungi that I have had since Italy. Mmmmm.
Day One finally ended around 11pm EST (8pm Pacific) when Alyssa finally settled into a good sleep, and Jule and I were about 3 minutes behind her.
All told, Alyssa did well and we loved our room, etc.
NOW onto Day 2...
