Poste Italiano e male male male!
Saluti da Montebelluno and Mail Boxes Etc. Yes, thank you for Mail Boxes Etc.
The Poste Italiano sucks. They wont ship anything over the size of two shoe boxes side by side. Let me explain why this matters.
Back to Monday. Rosie arrived at the airport no problem and we took a vaporetto (water bus) to Murano, where they make the famous Venitian glass (Murano is one of the islands of Venice - Burano is where they make the Venetian lace, which was in Jule's wedding dress that Mom Joan made).
Anyhow, we had a great day in Murano and saw so many amazing things.
Yesterday had to be the best day in Italy so far. Cousin Nico and Elisa took us up towards the city of Trento to a restaurant waaaaaay up on the hill. I remember Uncle Gene and Aunt JoAnn mentioned that they went here. It was a rainy day (our first day of rain in Italy) and snow up on the mountains. We had a tremendous lunch.. tooooo much to explain.. I'd say 6 or 7 courses and then I lost count. This restaurant makes a special drink that they light on fire and then you drink it. MMMMMMMMmmmmmm. Yummmy.
(I'll have to be brief since we are inpeeding on the lunch hour of the nice man at Mail Boxes Etc).
I took many photos of the ares. ...So gorgeous. After lunch, the restaurant owners took us into their cellar to see where they make all their own cheese, salami, and wine (and this great drink, Jule and I bought a bottle).
What a true awesome experience! Something the tour busses cannot show you.
After, we drove to Nove, and went to a ceramics factory. How gorgeous! The family has been in business forever.. the mother doing ceramics for over 40 years and her son now for over 20. They showed us how they make the most pristine flowers from ceramics, the molds they use for vases and other statues, etc. This was a great experience. We bought many things and now we have to figure out how to send them home. The Italian postal service, as I mentioned, will only send a box about as large as two shoe boxes . We sent the ladies in the post office into a tizzy trying to help us. Oh well. We found Mail Boxes Etc and the young man here is a big fan of Peja Stojakovic and Vlade Divac.
Anyway, the day was such a great time. It rained very hard at one point, but the experience of seeing these master craftsmen at work was truly unbelievable. To let you know, you see many of their works in very very expensive shops in America. Some of their creations sell for 1/10th the price here - maybe $1200 in America.. and maybe $120 here.
Gotsta go. Tomorrow we leave for Venice.
Beppe and family are good.
Nico and family are good.
Elio is looking really weak, but we see him again tonight. Otherwise the family is good (Nica, etc are good)
Zio Angelo has slowed a bit, but he was happy to see dad.. he was crying a bit.
Also Giovanni Rizzardo (first cousin of dad) was in tears. Its been a magical time in Cavaso. I hope my dad returns.
Ciao for now. We'll post in Venice (I hope).
