A day of finals and catching up

Today we went at a much needed relaxed pace.

This meant three things only on the schedule.
One was to watch as much soccer in the Gothia tournament that we could since today meant semifinals and final matches were starting.  Being at most 4 blocks from these games meant we could spend quite a bit of time watching all age and gender groups' top teams.

The second was to catch up with David Isaakson who was an exchange student to my high school back in 1991-1992.  He lives about 30 minutes south of here and came up for the day to visit.

The third meant seeing Spiderman at the movie theater one block away.

We succeeded.

Watching the G12 final in the old world cup stadium was a bit anticlimactic given that Boo IS from Sweden won the game 9-1.  But the boys final following that match featuring a team from Ghana who had won Gothia Cup last year as a B11 team playing against a team from Hamburg, Germany.
A very exciting match filled with unbelievable quality, but in the end Ghana won 3-1.

After that match we watched the first half of the G13 final (which would be U14 girls in the USA).  A German team took on a team from Marin County.  Marin was outclassed by far.

We saw a few other matches featuring our hosts from Jitex.  Sadly they lost in the semi-final match for the B playoffs.  But we will see them tomorrow at the Liseburg amusement park.

We took a break from watching soccer to spend a few hours visiting with David Isaakson who had come to Foothill High School as an exchange student in the 1991-92 school year.  David and I have remained connected through Facebook all these years so meeting up was a great opportunity.

It was a fun time and we caught up over a healthy lunch at Burger King... just like old times.

The day wrapped up with a trip to the theater to see Spiderman.  Swedish subtitles.

Great day with my Alyssa.  She sure is tired, but happy.

Tomorrow Liseburg!
