Off and running at Gothia
Howdy all
It has been a few days since I had a chance to catch up.
So much still to talk about from our experiences in Belgium and more photos to share.
Maybe tonight after Opening Ceremonies of Gothia Cup.
We arrived in Sweden on Saturday - and barely got check into our AirBnB before jetting off for our first team function and check in.
Sunday was a nearly all day trek to Jitex BK training grounds in Molndal south of Gothenburg. Sunday was cold and very rainy. Our girls played 80 straight minutes in the cold rain versus two different teams from Jitex.... the hosts swapped out their two teams every 20 minutes and went and got dry...while our ladies started a new quarter of soccer still in the rain. The poor kids were so cold and wet that they just stopped playing hard...
But after we lost, Jitex took us inside and treated us to a very nice BBQ.
The teams exchanged gifts and the girls exchanged Instagram and snapchat accounts and talked and talked and talked.
Today is Monday. We had our first game at 1040am local time versus Stureby. The match started out back and forth and just prior to half time we put one through to go up 1-0 at half time.
Stureby came out strong to start the second half but before you knew it our girls responded, we got a lucky bounce and were up 2-0. After that the crew that featured Alyssa at left wing and Simone at center forward put in two more goals with one highlight being Alyssa turning on her defender, striking a left footed shot off the near post and Simone was center of the box and put the rebound home.
A solid 4-0 win against what was told to us a tough team. Tomorrow we face another tough team in Onsala BK...our host team (other than Jitex). So we play them and then go hang out with them after. That won't be weird.
